FIRST is an organization that was developed from the thoughts of one inspired individual that wanted the youth of America to have heroes other than sports stars. He wanted pre-college age students to immerse themselves in made-for-TV sporting events that combined science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Robotics is a sport of the mind. It combines all the elements of the world’s latest technologies and the real life experience of teamwork for success. Since it’s inception, FIRST has grown to include youth from ages 6 through high school, includes greater than 100,000 youth, and is currently in more than 25 countries. Dean Kamen- Design engineer, internationally recognized inventor, business executive, and the promoter and founder of FIRST, was that individual. He is only one of this country’s scientific heroes.

Verde Valley Robotics
Verde Valley Robotics was developed and brought to middle Arizona because one young man wanted the opportunity to build robots. The organization of FIRST makes that opportunity available. As adult Mentors we have found that the youth of Verde Valley are just as smart and brilliant as others who live in places where exposure and environment make science and technology more readily available. What youth needed was a chance to succeed. Verde Valley Robotics is one of those chances.
